The ‘true story’ of how Dr. King kept Uhura on Star Trek
I thought this was awesome, and a great story. I didn’t grow up during the Original Series era; I actually grew up with TNG, DS9 and Voyager.
From the SCI FI Wire:
If you’re a Star Trek fan, you’ve no doubt heard the story of how Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. persuaded Nichelle Nichols to remain on the original series as Lt. Uhura when she was thinking of leaving after the first season.
Well, we’ve heard it, too, but given that we celebrate Dr. King’s legacy this week, it’s worth repeating, especially as Savas Abadsidis recently interviewed Nichols for Planet Waves and posts what he’s calling the “true story” of how that fateful encounter took place, in her own words.
